MISSION-DRIVEN BURNOUT 101
A self-paced course for nonprofit workers, organizers, and frontline staff ready to name what they're facing — and do something about it.
The Safety Training You Should Have Received
You know the feeling.
The exhaustion that sleep doesn't fix.
The grief that accumulates faster than you can process it.
The cynicism you didn't used to have.
The slow erosion of the purpose that brought you here in the first place.
This is not burnout. This is what happens when you are sent into hazardous conditions without a map.
Consider elevator mechanics. Before they face falls, electrical dangers, and mechanical risks, they receive mandatory safety training. Their employers are legally required to name every hazard and build in protections. The risks are documented. The preparation is required.
You got a mission statement and an overwhelming caseload.
That is not a personal failing. It is a sector-wide pattern — and it has a cost. The workers closest to the pain carry the most of it, with the least protection, and almost no preparation for what that actually does to a human body and mind over time.
This course is the map. It was built by people who needed it themselves.
It is also still being built. Joining the waitlist is how you reserve your place — and how you help make it possible.
What You’ll Gain
What You'll Walk Away With
You'll learn to name the six occupational hazards common in mission-driven work — chronic stress, vicarious trauma, moral injury, burnout, and more. Understanding what you're carrying is the first step to putting some of it down.
Not burnout in the abstract — burnout in your body, your relationships, your specific patterns. You'll build a personal early warning system before crisis hits, not after.
Individual self-care isn't enough and you already know it. You'll learn what collective care actually looks like — and leave with at least one practice that genuinely shifts your nervous system, not just your attitude.
Understand what you're actually facing
Recognize your warning signs
Know what actually helps
See your organization clearly
Some organizations are harmful. Some are healing. Most are somewhere in between — and it matters which one you're in. You'll assess yours with clear eyes and understand your real options: adapt, advocate, or leave.
Take meaningful action
You'll leave with advocacy scripts, a completed Action Plan, and a specific first step you're ready to take. Not someday. Before you close your laptop.
What’s inside
Four Modules. One Complete Journey.
You'll arrive without language for what you're experiencing. You'll leave with an action plan, advocacy scripts, and a nervous system that knows how to reset.
Module 1 — The Safety Training You Never Received (~60 min)
Finally have names for what you're carrying — and understand the systems that put it there.
Module 2 — What's Actually Happening (~45 min)
Go inside your brain and body, understand why you feel the way you feel, and learn what actually helps.
Module 3 — Reading Your Reality (~50 min)
Assess your organization's culture using a five-point spectrum and see your real options clearly.
Module 4 — What You Can Do Now (~50 min)
Build your response — advocacy scripts, four doorways for creating change, and a completed Action Plan.
The practices are the point.
Each module opens and closes with a guided somatic practice — short, gentle, doable in your desk chair. No special equipment. No flexibility required.
You might be tempted to skip these. Don't.
Burnout doesn't just live in your mind — it lives in your shoulders, your stomach, the exhaustion that sleep doesn't fix. The eight guided somatic practice videos in this course are not add-ons. They are what makes this training different from everything else you've tried.
What's included: Six downloadable tools you'll actually use — plus the bonus Your First 90 Days Guide, a certificate of completion, and lifetime access to everything.
Who Is This For + Pricing
This Course Was Made for You
If your job involves caring for others while navigating systems that weren't built to support either of you — you're in the right place.
You don't need to be burned out to take this course. The best time to learn this material is before you're in crisis. The warning signs are already there — the low-grade exhaustion, the cynicism you didn't used to have, the way you've stopped talking about your work the way you used to. You don't have to be at the bottom to benefit from a map.
Wherever you are, you belong here.
When you're ready, here's what enrollment looks like.
-
For workers experiencing financial hardship
-
For individual workers

No application. No verification. No judgment.
We mean it. This course exists because the sector has failed to protect the people doing its most important work. The last thing we will do is replicate that failure at the point of access.
Mission-Driven Burnout 101 is currently in development. Joining the waitlist is how you reserve your place — and how you help demonstrate the demand that makes this course possible.
Are You a Foundation Officer or a Philanthropic Partner?
This section is for you.
The organizations in your portfolio are burning out. Not because their staff lack resilience — but because the sector has built a funding and accountability architecture that requires superhuman endurance to survive. The result is predictable: high turnover, institutional knowledge loss, compromised service quality, and the erosion of the organizational cultures that make equity work possible.
Mission-Driven Burnout 101 is not a wellness program. It is sector infrastructure — the foundational safety training that every mission-driven worker should receive and almost none do. Investing in this course is investing in the sustainability of the organizations and movements your portfolio depends on.
This course is built on evidence, not assumption. Four years of primary research — 2020 through 2024 — with vaccine equity organizations on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic. Organizational leaders, frontline staff, and capacity-building consultants across multiple organizations — representing every level of the sector most affected by this crisis. What they told us was consistent: workers are facing real occupational hazards with no preparation, no language, and no systemic support. This curriculum is the response to what they said.
AllThrive has served more than 100 organizations and their funders since 2017, including a multi-year partnership with Sierra Health Foundation on COVID vaccine equity work from 2021 through 2024.
The wellbeing of the workforce serving historically excluded communities is a health equity issue — not a personal wellness issue. If that framing resonates with the work your foundation is trying to do, we'd like to talk.
